Gina

Hi there, I'm Gina.

This blog serves many purposes for me -- sharing new writing & works in progress, keeping in touch with old friends, making new friends, and keeping an eye on what's happening on the interwebs. But mostly? It's where I blow off steam from graduate school and talk about which David Bowie song is the queerest. ;)

If you wanna know more about me, check out my website for info about the work that I do in the world.

If you're here because you're a fan of my writing, I recommend checking out How To Have A Body for a peek at my current manuscript in progress.

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet. Enjoy your stay.

Working with Kiki and Herb was one of the most incredible things I have ever done. It was magical… a span of my past that reminds me how blessed I am to have experienced breathtaking beauty in my lifetime.

“Running Up That Hill,” Kate Bush cover from Kiki and Herb’s Christmas album, “Do You Hear What We Hear?”

seriously been on repeat for days at this point, but just keeps getting more and more…..idk

    Wow.

  • “Even listening to Hounds of Love as much as I did, I couldn’t quite make sense of what Reichian Therapy was. My parents told me it was a kind of group therapy, but they didn’t know anything beyond that. The music was very emotional, so it being about therapy fit, but all the obscure cultural references were lost on me. No matter. As fiercely analytical, as inquisitive as I was, I was willing to let it be a mystery, at least for awhile. The swells and the crescendos, the underpinnings, they were enough. If I only could, I’d make a deal with God, and I’d get him to swap our places. How many times had I wanted to do that very thing for someone I loved?”

  • “Army Dreamers,” Kate Bush, Never for Ever. (Much better than “Babooshka.”)

  • “Babooshka,” Kate Bush, Never for Ever. I’m really into this album lately, but damn, this video is RIDICULOUS!

  • “Breathing.” Kate Bush, from Never for Ever. It’s a day for this song.

My radar sends me danger, but my instincts tell me to keep breathing. Breathing my mother in. My beloved in. Breathing her nicotine. Breathing the fall-out in.

  • I love how weird, melodramatic, & absolutely drag-queeny Kate Bush is in this video. I love it in an earnest way. Yes, “You crush the lily in my soul” is a diva line, but? She works it. Hard. And the song is beautiful.

Also, I’m back from Vegas. Happy, inspired, & very slightly post-travel melancholy. I spent almost all of July traveling: Portland, Seattle, Eugene, then home for a week, then Vegas. It’s great — but also slightly disorienting — to finally be home for awhile. I feel like I’m learning how to settle back into home.

  • This gorgeous cover of “Running Up That Hill” by The Chromatics just started playing at the cafe where I am attempting to pound out my Girl Talk piece, and I’m all “Huh. Fitting.”

  • “Cloudbusting” is one of my favorite Kate Bush songs, and one of my favorite songs in general. I am not above singing it to myself when I’m sad or stressed out. It’s pretty, happy but still melancholic, touching, and sweetly pervertable — especially in this extended mix for the video! (Just listen/watch — you’ll see/hear what I’m talking about). I love the refrain, Ooooh, I just know that something good is gonna happen. I love the lyrics about hiding from the government: Resistance! Intrigue! Cloud machines! It is so weird and great!

But the reason I’m bothering to post this is that the other times I’ve watched this video, I’ve somehow missed that Kate Bush is in drag as a young boy! HOT!!!
