Gina

Hi there, I'm Gina.

This blog serves many purposes for me -- sharing new writing & works in progress, keeping in touch with old friends, making new friends, and keeping an eye on what's happening on the interwebs. But mostly? It's where I blow off steam from graduate school and talk about which David Bowie song is the queerest. ;)

If you wanna know more about me, check out my website for info about the work that I do in the world.

If you're here because you're a fan of my writing, I recommend checking out How To Have A Body for a peek at my current manuscript in progress.

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet. Enjoy your stay.

  • New labret jewelry & newly Muppet Pink hair. For no reason other than vanity, really. In other news:
+ My best friend from childhood — like, seriously, we met when I was in the 5th grade & grew up 3 blocks away from each other in the Ingleside/Lakeview — got married this weekend. I did a reading at the wedding, and I apparently made many people cry. Hearing that was really awesome, sweet, and touching. I quoted from my favorite poem about love — Allen Ginsberg’s “Song.”+ My own feelings about mawwiage & matwimony are complex. I used to be very RAWR RAWR anti-assimilationist about marriage — both gay marriage and straight marriage — in my teens & early twenties. I am less so now. I hate to sound trite &/or ageist, but I feel like age has kinda mellowed me out about this sort of thing. Basically, I think that people should be able to marry whomever they damn well please, but I could also care less about the state approving my or my friend’s relationships. I get why queer people fight for marriage as a legal right — it isn’t always just about assimilation, it is also about things like being able to have custody of your kids and visiting your partner in the hospital when they are sick. BUT I really wish that the energy/momentum that people pour into “marriage equality” was also going into things like, oh, housing homeless queer & trans youth, fighting for universal health care, protecting immigrants & undocumented folks & people working in street economies, etc, etc, etc. I just feel like, at the end of the day, esp. as a queer non-monogamous pervert who does my relationships & sex life in fairly non-standard ways, marriage equality is not really my struggle.+ See also, the ways that couples — all kinds of couples — get privileged over “single” people and people in more non-traditional relationships bugs the hell outta me.+ But anyway: When I think of weddings NOT as the state barging into my life/my friend’s lives, but as big awesome parties & rituals to celebrate love & passion & life, I like them a whole lot. I guess I am a romantic in that way?+ My point being, the wedding was sweet, and I feel very lucky to still be very close with my childhood best friend. + Also? The cake was awesome. Just sayin’.
