4 things (to possibly be expanded on later, when i haz more brain)

1. Two cross-country gigs in one day is no fucking joke, peoples. Especially when you have a chronic illness. I slept 12 hours last night/today, and I am STILL the Tiredest Gina in the History of All Ginas. Ever.

2. Still. I am glad & grateful we brought Girl Talk out to Smith and especially, especially to Hampshire. More about both of those gigs soon. But in very short: I’m proud of us. We did good work. The audiences were small, which was sad, and which also illustrates why this work is so fucking important. That said: The people who were there in the room were engaged and gracious and enthusiastic and seemed really touched by the work. That matters.

Also, for the Hampshire gig, 3/4 of us were 5 College Consortium alums, and Jos & I are both Hampshire alums. It was beyond cool to sit on a stage with 3 of my closest friends in the world, first off. Secondly, it was beyond cool to bring this work that means so much to all of us to a community that means so much to me, Jos, and Melissa. Thirdly, it was awesome to show Rose the Pioneer Valley, as it is a place that was so formative for me as a young’un.

3. My Thesis (which is the first full draft of How To Have A Body) is due to my advisor for review in 17 days. Then re-writes. Then Thesis filing. Then graduating in mid-May (!).

4. In short: This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no foolin’ around. I will probably be pretty quiet here for the next bit of awhile, while I’m hunkering down with The Book.

Its heartwarming to see these students (I don’t know what their identification is) stand up for the rights of transwomen especially when the queer community—especially the lesbian segment—is so quick to show them abuse and neglect. I hope I get to see the day when this gross policy is eliminated. To all the transwomen out there, you have my full love and support.

Side Note: In addition to being smart and talented, Smithies are exceptionally cute.

i know a trans woman who was in a (co-ed) graduate program at smith who would love to see this

I still rage at the fact that much of the discussed “trans inclusion” at women’s colleges and universities is aimed at keeping trans men enrolled.

There is a lot of amazing change happening all over the place. The conversation is changing. People’s hearts and minds are changing.

(Now hopefully these students are actually standing up telling the people in charge these things and not just saying them on Tumblr.)

I’m very heartened to see this. By the way, Smith folks & others: Myself, Elena Rose, and Jos Truitt will be doing a Girl Talk event at Smith on April 6th. More details forthcoming ASAP, but be sure to mark yr calendars in the meantime!

My dear friend Jos Truitt is so talented it almost hurts. I am unbelievably proud of her for putting on this show. Come out to the Center for Sex & Culture on Friday night to see her take on The Little Mermaid as a trans fairytale. I’ve had the extreme pleasure of getting up close & personal with this work already (and even seeing some of it in progress! Being friends with a printmaker is COOL, y’all!). It is gorgeous, eerie, brave, intense, sexy, funny, and very, very smart. Not unlike the artist. ;)

"I think you can trace an entire generation’s sexuality and fashion sense back to this musical number. This is the intersection of genderqueers and the labor movement! This is why queers are lefties — it’s not marginalization, it’s the influence of this film on them as children!"

— Jos (fake!) analyzes Newsies.

Jos & I are about to watch Newsies in honor of Labor Day. Y’know, like ya do.

So, Jos has turned me on to Community, and it is possibly The Best Show Evar. There’s some upfuckedness here & there, but mostly, I love it. I especially love how simultaneously farcical and very real it is.

Also, Betty White rapping. Just sayin’.

Jos Jos Jos Jos JOSSSSSSSSSS! Beautiful awesome Jos! I adore you. <3 <3 <3

I don’t find heteronormativity or consumerism attractive. But I’ll keep the chocolate.

"Sky Mall Kitties!" Wow, Nina Katchadourian is my New Favorite Artist EVER. The stills from this video were collected entirely on a plane, with her iPhone.

Thank you Jos!

This is Percival the Purple Peacock. I found him at the Walgreen’s today with Jos, while I was waiting to get my root canal pain meds rx re-filled. I was perhaps a little bit on pain meds when I found him. He didn’t have a price tag, but the dude behind the counter sold him to me for $2.99 (with a very big grin on his face). I’m not sure if Counter Dude was flirting with me, or if he was just really amused that a woman in her late 20s with no kids with her was buying a stuffed sparkly purple & blue peacock. But any way it goes, I am glad to be able to give Percival a home in my Stuffed Animal Misfit Menagerie (which is mostly full of weird glittery monsters, winged things, sea creatures, & insects). He’s a good bird.
