I’m curating a show (I’ll have a title for you soon, I promise) in honor of International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. This will be a space where we gather sex worker community & allies to remember our beloved dead and to celebrate the living. Please come out for it, and please tell...

desserts of my people & dancing
I’m making zabaglione for Thanksgiving chez Pidge & Rose’s. We are also having cannoli from their favorite Italian bakery. Oh, yes. Otherwise: I’ve had some good sleep, good reading, good cafe-dwelling, good catching up with friends, good catching up on freelance & homework (I can’t really not do work right now — but I can at least do a lot less of it), &...

I’m feeling a mix of relief and absolute rage, reading this. Mostly rage. Getting this news a day after Trans Day of Remembrance, and the same week that two queer & trans youth of color were brutally murdered… Oh, spavende, as my grandmother would say. It just does something to me. That part of me that can hold the rage in check breaks a little. I was very shaken up by Ruby...

It’s called “New Orleans” (read the rest of Susie’s post here). Considering all the (deserved!) hype that Precious is getting, I’m psyched to see Sapphire’s older stuff coming out of the woodwork, too. I read Push when I was 13 or 14, I think. I found a review of it in That Lesbian Magazine That Was Then Known As Deneuve (little did I know I’d be writing...

I’m home sick (yuck), and catching up on things like internet tv, drinking orange juice, & livejournal (shhh). I found this link from a post in a trans-related community on ye olde lj. It really is too perfect.  You know how it is.  You’re enjoying yourself, kicking back and relaxing at the pub or maybe at the library; or maybe you’re in class or just casually surfing the internet,...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m taking a vacation! An Actual Vacation! I’m going to Portland from 11/23-11/28. To hang out with Rose & Pidge, take long walks, read books in coffeeshops, eat good food, rest a lot, & go out dancing. And also perhaps cruise. I am so happy! And I still have about 300 (of 700, so I made a lot of progress) pages of reading to do. Getting back to that, now.

bake bake bake the melancholy/stress away!
My last couple weeks have been kinda weaksauce. In short: School has been hella stressful and my heart is a little ouchy. I’ll be fine, and life is mostly pretty awesome, but, you know, weaksauce. It happens. I realized tonight that I have been sublimating all my feelings of sadness, stress, anxiety, anger, and melancholy into cooking and baking. There are worse ways of dealing. I bought...

Hey, Bay Area! Would you come to this?
If I put on a show around International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers’ the week of Thursday, December 17th (that is when Day to End Violence is), would you come? I’m envisioning an evening of performing arts where we gather sex worker community & allies to remember our dead and to celebrate the living. It would be distinct from the memorials that are being held in that...

Lessons in Imperfectionism
I turned in 30 pages of novel to my Novel Writing class tonight. It is all work that has never been workshopped before. Some of it is very old, some of it is very new, and all of it feels pretty rough and vulnerable. I have what one could politely call a perfectionistic streak when it comes to my writing. (If you weren’t being polite? You’d say I get really fucking obsessive about...

oh!
A student at Reed College just emailed me asking for information about Girl Talk: a cis & trans woman dialogue (the show me & Julia Serano curated for Nat’l Queer Arts Fest 2009). She wants to include our work in her thesis. She also asked if we were ever gonna bring the show to Portland so she could see it. :) Gee whiz. I’m pretty proud, right about now.
